Top Three Tips for Packing Up Before the Movers Arrive

moving2

If you’ve hired a moving company to assist you with just the loading and transporting of your
belongings, it’s important to keep one thing in mind – you must have everything packed when they
arrive! But packing up your entire home can be overwhelming, so where do you start? Keep these three
tips in mind and the packing process will be a breeze:

Sort. There’s no sense in packing belongings you no longer need, right? That’s why you should
sort as you pack. In other words, before placing an item automatically into a box, ask yourself
if you’ve used it – or worn it, in clothing’s case – within the last year. If not, then place it into a
“discard” pile or a “sell/donate” pile. Once you have sorted your entire home, hold a moving
sale for those items marked “sell/donate.” That way, you aren’t paying to move the extra weight
you no longer need…and you just might make a little money in the process.
Buy. Having the right moving supplies is essential to a successful packing job. There are several
box types to consider, including specialty boxes such as wardrobe, dish-pack, mattress, mirror,
custom, and artwork boxes. Of course, you’ll want a variety of large, medium, and small boxes
for the majority of your belongings. Furthermore, be sure to purchase enough tape, bubble
wrap, news-wrap, and other essential packing supplies.
Label. When it’s time for the movers to unload your stuff at your new home, they’ll want to
know exactly where to place each box. This is where it’s especially important to be organized.
When packing up boxes, label diligently! In other words, write exactly what each box holds – be
as specific as possible – and in which room it should be placed upon arrival at your new place. By
taking this simple step, you’ll avoid a lot of confusion on moving day and beyond when you’re
setting out to unpack.

These three steps should make the packing process simple and straightforward. If the idea of packing up your entire house is overwhelming, you can pay extra to hire your moving company to do the packing for you. They’ll usually bring the packing supplies too, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
